Reasons Your May Need an Air Conditioning Company
The air conditioning in your home helps keep the house comfortable during the warmer months of the year. In some parts of the country, people use the air conditioning all year, and it is essential to keep it running right. There are many reasons you may need an air conditioning company to come to check on your unit and fix anything that is not working correctly.
No Cold Air
One of the most common problems that people call an air conditioning tech for is for a unit that is not working correctly. If the air conditioning is running, but the air is not cold, it is likely that the system has a compressor problem or has developed a leak and lost the refrigerant from the system. You will not be able to look and see what is happening, but the air conditioning tech will be able to test the system and see what is causing the problem. The tech will check the refrigerant level and determine if it is low and if that is not the problem, he will test some of the other components until he finds the problem.
The Air Conditioner Isn't Running
If you adjust the thermostat and the air conditioner does not come on, there are a lot of potential problems. Before you call the air conditioning company, check the breakers in the electrical box and make sure they are not tripped off. If the breaker is tripped, reset it and see what happens. If it goes out again, you have a problem somewhere, and you need the air conditioning company to send someone out to investigate. Some issues could cause the power to shut down, including a bare wire that is shorting out, a bad relay or switch inside the unit, or failure of a significant component in the system.
Noises or Odors from the Air Conditioner
Inside your air conditioner, there are some belts and other mechanical parts that can break. Often these produce the noises you hear inside the unit. A fan that is wobbling or has a bad bearing can be very loud and have an awful sound. A compressor that is frozen can also make noise and produce smoke or a strong odor from the friction on the bearings in the motor. If you hear a sound that is out of the ordinary or a strange smell coming from the air conditioning unit, call your air conditioning company and have them come out and check the unit right away.
